At the heart of the Atlantic Flyway you will find the "Cap Tourmente National Wildlife Area" - one of the best sites for bird watching in North America. In fact, more than 305 bird species have been observed there including the spectacular Greater Snow Goose who stops there in the spring and autumn. Located on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River, where great coastal marshes, plains and mountains meet, it is the point of convergence for the St. Lawrence Lowlands and the Canadian Shield.
The heart of this region witnessed the beginnings of colonization and French involvement in North America, Cap Tourmente National Wildlife Area offers one of the most beautiful historic sites on the continent, at the same place where Samuel de Champlain, founder of Québec City, erected the first farm in the Saint Lawrence Valley in 1626.
A visit to Cap Tourmente National Wildlife Area will impress amateurs as well as experts in ornithology, history, environment and outdoor recreation. Situated close to Québec City, the area integrates easily into Cap Tourmente and Côte-de-Beaupré tourism and is a part of La Route de la Nouvelle-France. The Wildlife Area evokes the resorts and the rural reality of a region that grew up in step with Quebec.
